Conie/Coney Family History
Welcome to the Conie Family Website
This
is a family history of the British branch of the family based on
information that I have collected. It comes from a number of sources,
not all of which have been cross checked, so any corrections are
welcome! There are various derivatives of the name, the main ones being
CONEY, CONY, CONNEY and CONYE. The family originally came to this country with Queen Isabell in the early 1300s and settled in Lincolnshire.
My
own branch of the family settled in Weedon and then Flore,
Northamptonshire in the early 1800s and lived there until my father, Dennis, died in 1998. It was James Conie
who first came to the area with the 33rd Regiment of Foot who were
stationed at Weedon Barracks. All references to his place of birth
state Wycombe but there is no record in Bucks and since his regiment
was raised in Yorkshire it seems most likely that his birthplace was
Wickham, nr Malton in that county. I am currently looking for more
information regarding him or his wife, Mary. Any help would be appreciated as would any information about any part of the Conie/Coney family.
SUCCESS
James Conie enlisted with 33rd Regiment of Foot in Leeds on 21st
September 1830. He was discharged 1st August 1836. He had 28days
furlough in November 1833 and again in December 1834/January 1835. Was
this to get married and then have his first child?
NO LUCK finding
James in Buckinghamshire having searched all records around High
Wycombe and Princes Risborough including Non- Conformist births. I did
find James and Mary in 1881 census with surname Corrie and claiming
birth in Princes Risborough!!
